One of the keys to the future prosperity for many restaurants is offering a menu for all moods and occasions. At Goûts et Couleurs a three course menu can be had at all times at a price point whereby two can dine, with wine, for 60€ or so. There's even a three course lunchtime menu for about 17€. If you want a slightly more elaborate meal with flashier ingredients, as we did, then you still find great value. Exactly the same comments apply to the wine list.

We went on a Thursday lunchtime and would have expected things to be quiet, but the majority of tables gradually became occupied with what appeared to be locals rather than tourists - but late October is off-season.

Our meal started with a taster of fig stuffed with foie gras and a pumpkin mousse. Crevettes with a chorizo sauce, Nero rice, fennel sauce and salad was a fine starter. Flounder (it seemed like Halibut to me) had a cream of mixed mushroom sauce with a hint of coffee, mash and some dried ham. The coffee certainly worked well with the sweetness of the fish and the earthiness of the mushrooms.

Roast pigeon was sweet and tender and the aligot used celeriac to complement the game, as did the foie gras "ravioli" that utilised a thin slice of celeriac as wrapping. After cheese a chocolate mousse selection had an interesting diversity of flavours but was otherwise mono-textured. Raspberry jelly with raspberries and pistachio ice cream was a fitting finale.

Including coffee and the extravagance of a half bottle of Mas de Daumas Gassac white at 28€ plus aperitifs and half a red Cahors our bill was a still reasonable 128€. Our main criticism of the food is the lack vegetables, but that may be solved by having a less expensive menu. Next time we will find out.
